I'd recommend doing some routing practice, some database migration and seeding and some blade templating. Take an old project you developed and convert it to laravel.
I personally learn using this free series
Its amazing and its free. Developed by highly respected Jeffery Way as he guides you through the basics. The key is to do one or two videos / day. Stop the video every couple minutes, do what he is talking about at the same time, experiment your own thing and then start the screencast again.
I personally had a big TV connected to my Macbook as I watched the video on it and on another screen i.e the Macbook's screen
Watch once, practice twice! And you'd be fine in two to three weeks with about two hours of daily practice.
